Why does our Youth Ministry exist?
The following three pieces of New Testament Scripture detail exactly why we exist as a ministry:
The Great Commandment
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and will all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Matthew 22: 37-40
The Great Commission Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28: 18-20
The Great Challenge to Young Believers Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
1 Timothy 4: 12-14
The purpose of the Church is described in both the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
The five purposes include:
These are the five New Testament purposes of the Church, which is also discussed in Acts 2. We also need to make it very clear that youth are not the future of the Church, they are the NOW of the Church. Just as Paul expresses this to Timothy, we need to express to our youth that they can set the example NOW "in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity."

Our youth ministry, being a vital ministry of the Church, should thus operate on these same principles of purpose. From this we can develop a statement of purpose that will serve as the guiding principle of our ministry and will help us to answer the question, "Why does our ministry exist?"

It is our prayer that these principles of youth ministry will assist our youth in reaching their potential in Jesus Christ.
